Yes. Each Veteran is required to have a guardian. The guardian is typically someone a generation younger than the Veteran. They can be a son, daughter, grandchild (over 18) or good friend. Spouses are not allowed to be a guardian (see other FAQ on this topic).
Our trip is a 5-day trip. It starts on Wednesday late afternoon, and we return on Sunday. You will need to pack for four overnight stays and five total days. Make sure to also plan on 1 extra day of medications beyond the 5 day trip for emergencies.
Each of our trips will typically include 25 Veterans. The trip has a total of fifty-five people consisting of Veterans, guardians and HFPO volunteers to execute the 5-day trip safely and successfully.
Unfortunately, no. A long-standing policy of Honor Flight is a spouse may not be the guardian. There are a number of reasons why and we are happy to explain, but a guardian can be a friend or family member typically a generation younger. There are duties a guardian is required to assist with on the trip and good health and strength is just one of many reasons.
Veterans who have honorably served in any branch of service during any period of war, conflict, or peace time. We are currently flying WWII, Korean and Vietnam Veterans. Also, terminally ill Veterans serving during any era. Regardless of time era a terminal Veteran has served, they receive top priority. The trip is FREE to all eligible Veterans.

Due to circumstances resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic, the Department of Homeland Security has extended the REAL ID enforcement deadline. The new deadline for REAL ID enforcement is May 3, 2023.
Beginning May 3, 2023, every air traveler 18 years of age and older will need a REAL ID-compliant driver’s license, state-issued enhanced driver’s license, or another acceptable form of ID to fly within the United States. The current cost per guardian is ______. This price includes round trip airfare, lodging, meals, and ground transportation to all the memorials. Our guardians are asked to only make a donation of ______ to cover a portion of their participation in the trip.
This is NOT a problem. We have volunteer guardians that will be ready and able to be assigned to the Veteran. There is NO COST to the Veteran for this option.
NO! We are all 100% volunteers. There are no salaries, stipends or other financial arrangements for our board of directors.
